QUOLKE’S CORNER #143
SCHOOL DAY RESTORATION UPDATE
Human Resources is in the process of recalling teachers that are on the K-8 recall list. They are currently waiting for responses from 17 people that they had to send letters to via U.S. mail. CTU is working with the District to try and contact these members.
I have heard some concerns regarding the restoration of the school day and what will happen to teachers if/when a split is eliminated. Please look at the guidelines below. This is what was agreed to by CEO Gordon and myself. This is what will happen:
- If a teacher is split between the building they were assigned to in 2011-2012 and a new building and an allocation is added that makes splitting buildings no longer necessary, then the teacher will be assigned back to the school where they taught in 2011-2012.
- If a teacher is split in a completely new assignment (because of a necessary, voluntary, or special transfer) and an allocation is added that makes splitting no longer necessary, then the teacher will be assigned to the school where they currently teach 3 days per week.
- If a teacher is split in a completely new assignment (because of a necessary, voluntary, or special transfer, or recall) and an allocation is added that makes splitting no longer necessary in only that teacher's 2 day a week school (3 day a week school is still split), than the teacher will be assigned to the 2 day a week school.
- Not all splits will be able to be eliminated. Some teachers will remain in splits for the remainder of the school year. New splits will be created through this process, and these in all likelihood will be filled by a recalled teacher.
Also note that in areas where a split will still exist in the second semester, there will be a flip flop. That means if an encore was at a site on Monday and Tuesday in semester one, that encore will be at the site Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during semester 2 and vice versa. A two day school now becomes that three day school and the three day school now becomes the two day school.
Grades in all K-8 schools will be due in the computer by 7:00 AM on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16.
